This is part of my 25 short film series; the first of them all. It is adapted from my short story, “The Resolve.”
“The Resolve” depicts Shu Ying’s solitary struggle on the planet Jinqiong. Driven by her yearning for the starry sky, she repeatedly defies the “bowing down” rules of the Jinqiong civilization. Her acts of rebellion provoke a fierce response from the Jinqiong civilization, ultimately leading to her exile to the planet’s surface. On the surface, she faces ruins and solitude, yet continues to pursue her beliefs and freedom.
Tools
I used a combination of Midjourney and Flux for image generation, which has been my preferred technical approach. This time, a lot of Flux’s Kontext was utilized.
For the video, I used Kling and Dreamina as the main card drawing tools, with occasional appearances from Hailuo and Vidu. Higgsfield was used for some specific special effect shots. Each video tool has its unique strengths. In brief, Kling is great for wide-angle camera movements, Dreamina is very stable, Hailuo has a good understanding of prompts and excels at exaggerated emotional expressions, and Vidu is perfect for the beginning and ending frames.
The music in this video, which I also really like, was made using Suno’s 4.5 model. I blended steampunk and dark baroque styles, with the harpsichord adding a lot of character. The final shot’s vocal chant is also spot on.
